"The experience to be gathered from books, Though often valuable, is but of the nature of learning; Whereas the experience gained from actual life, Is of the nature of wisdom; And a small store of the latter Is worth vastly more than a stock of the former."

—Samuel Smiles (1812-1904) Self Help -1859

How to get involved!

Volunteering

Volunteers are always welcome! We need help shelving books, dusting, typing cards for our genealogial files and many other tasks. In the summer, help with the reading programs is always needed and welcome. Call us or stop by and talk to us about giving a few hours of your time to the support or our library.

Friends of the Library

At this time we do not have a Friends of the Library Cub. The board and staff feel that one is greatly needed. I know in other towns their FLC helps raise money for things like computers, digital cameras and other items that are on every librarian's "wish" list. The FLC does things like cookie walks, book sales, chocolate tasting, and many other activities to help raise funds. If you are interested in helping get a FLC started please contact us, we would love it!

Funding

Tax dollars is where we get most of our money to run the library. As you know we live in a tax cap county so we have been working with the same budget for about 5 years now. The State and federal governments keep cutting the funds they give to the libraries and the grants that were once available have been slowly disappearing. Where does that leave us? Shorter hours, fewer new materials, fewer services for the patrons, and computers that are not as upto date as they should be. We would like to offer more like reading clubs for adults, story hours for the kids, computer classes, GED help, job search help and many other programs. How can you help? Ask about our wish list, donate to the computer fund when you use them, buy a new book and donate it to us. . Save your pennies and bring them in to us, we use pennies to help buy childrens books.

Remember us when sending a memorial for a friend or a loved one. If your are stumped for that perfect gift for the person who has everything, make a donation in their name! If you donate $100.00 or more we put your name or the name of anyone you would like on a plaque that hangs in our library. Think about us at the end of the year to help you save on those taxes. If you want your donation to go towards a certain book or for the childrens library we will be glad to help see that your wish is filled.
